The available programs are “Forces of Nature” on November 6 and 7, 2026; “The Call of the Wild” on March 5 and 6, 2027; “Myths & Mountains” on April 9 and 10, 2027, plus April 11 at Strathmore; and “Shaped by Nature” on May 7 and 8, 2027.
Forces of Nature: This program features Luke Soneral’s “An Overture: The Mouse and Its Shadow,” Reinaldo Moya’s ocean-inspired violin concerto “Vestida de Mar” with violinist Francesca Anderegg, Tchaikovsky’s “The Tempest,” and Stravinsky’s “Divertimento from Le baiser de la fée,” or “The Fairy’s Kiss.” The program explores nature as a source of wonder, change, and insight, moving from the future of orchestral music to the landscapes of the Americas, Shakespearean storm imagery, and Andersen-inspired winter scenes. The concert is approximately two hours long, including a 20-minute intermission.
The Call of the Wild: The repertoire includes Debussy’s “Fêtes” from “Nocturnes,” Ravel’s “Alborada del gracioso,” Tan Dun’s “Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds,” and Richard Strauss’s “Eine Alpensinfonie,” or “An Alpine Symphony.” The program combines festive color, Spanish-inspired virtuosity, and an audience-and-orchestra musical experience involving smartphones and birdcalls before concluding with Strauss’s dramatic journey from nighttime through an alpine storm to sunrise. The concert runs approximately two hours, including a 20-minute intermission.
Myths & Mountains: Jean Sibelius’s “Tapiola,” Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor with violinist Esther Yoo, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 make up this program. Sibelius evokes an ancient Nordic forest, Bruch provides a lyrical and technically demanding showcase for Yoo, and Beethoven brings the concert to a rhythmically powerful conclusion. Maryland Hall performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings with a 6:30 PM pre-concert lecture and 7:30 PM concert. The April 11 Strathmore performance begins at 3:00 PM. The program lasts approximately one hour and 50 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. Tickets for the Strathmore performance are sold through the Strathmore website.
Shaped by Nature: This program presents Benjamin Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes” from “Peter Grimes,” Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 featuring pianist Stewart Goodyear, and Ferde Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite.” The music moves from Britten’s changing ocean moods to Prokofiev’s virtuosic concerto and Grofé’s musical depiction of desert landscapes, sunrise, trails, and storms in the American West. The concert is approximately one hour and 50 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission.
Showtimes: The Maryland Hall concerts have a 6:30 PM pre-concert lecture followed by the concert at 7:30 PM. “Myths & Mountains” at The Music Center at Strathmore begins at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 11, 2027.
Run Time: “Forces of Nature” and “The Call of the Wild” run approximately two hours with a 20-minute intermission. “Myths & Mountains” and “Shaped by Nature” run approximately one hour and 50 minutes with a 20-minute intermission.
