Jean Rondeau
Jean Rondeau returns to Chamber Music Maryland for a solo harpsichord recital at First Lutheran Church in Ellicott City. Celebrated for his expressive command of the instrument and inventive programming, Rondeau will explore the golden age of French Baroque keyboard music, from Louis Couperin’s improvisatory style and Rameau’s brilliance to François Couperin’s elegance and Royer’s dramatic flair. The church’s resonant sanctuary is intended to evoke the grandeur of Versailles.
The program features works by four major French composers, including Royer’s thrilling *La Marche des Scythes*. Rondeau is regarded as a leading international advocate for the harpsichord, combining historical awareness with a contemporary approach that highlights the instrument’s flexibility and expressiveness.
