Surveilled or Seen: Sinew of Trust in the Video of Marina Abramović and Lynda Benglis
Surveilled or Seen: Sinew of Trust in the Video of Marina Abramović and Lynda Benglis examines the difference between being looked at and being truly witnessed. The exhibition brings together two significant video works: Marina Abramović’s *Rest Energy* (1980) and Lynda Benglis’ *Monitor* (1999).
Together, the works explore trust, vulnerability, mutual observation, and the emotional cost of relying on another person. The exhibition asks how essential it is for people not merely to see one another, but to offer meaningful attention and recognition. Funding was provided by Laura Ricciardelli and David Watt and the Arts Council for Anne Arundel County.
