Threshold of Stone Exhibition: Exploring the Physical, Political and Artistic Multiplicity of Walls
Threshold of Stone: Exploring the Physical, Political and Artistic Multiplicity of Walls is a collaborative photographic exhibition presented by C. Grimaldis Gallery and Catalyst Contemporary. Bringing together Dimitra Lazaridou, Ben Marcin, Brian P. Miller, Bernd Radtke, and Leland Rice, the exhibition considers walls as physical structures and as political, psychological, and artistic symbols. The works explore how walls can divide, protect, isolate, preserve memory, conceal history, and record evidence of human contact through weathering, graffiti, repair, erasure, and time.
The exhibition treats the wall as a meeting point between public and private space and as a boundary between presence and absence. Lazaridou’s urban images examine architectural surfaces, barriers, stairways, and thresholds; Rice’s photographs of the West German side of the Berlin Wall document pictographs, poems, slogans, and other expressions of resistance; Radtke focuses on architectural fragments, light, atmosphere, and the passage of time; Marcin considers architecture as a witness to demographic change and memory; and Miller photographs walls in New York City and Miami as both fortified structures and continually changing canvases for vandalism and free expression. Together, the artists’ photographs reflect on division, endurance, changing perception, and the marks people leave behind.
