Featuring: John Duda

Cooperatives in and against capitalism is a free talk led by Red Emma’s worker-owner John Duda. The program examines the incomplete global history of cooperatives as democratic alternatives to capitalism, along with their connections to political movements pursuing justice and liberation. It is part of the Baltimore Roundtable for Economic Democracy’s month-long celebration of cooperatives and its tenth anniversary.

Duda is an independent researcher and communications strategist focused on building a more democratic economy. He previously spent nine years as communications director for The Democracy Collaborative and has worked across digital media, software development, and left politics. He holds a PhD in intellectual history from Johns Hopkins University, has written widely on left organizing and economic alternatives, and co-founded Red Emma’s. His book, *Noise From Below: Cybernetics, Socialism, and the Strange History of Self-Organization*, is scheduled for publication by Haymarket Books in 2027.
