Okapi (asheville) + Nature Boys (KC) + Velvet Zombie + Burger Monday
Okapi, Nature Boys, Velvet Zombie, and Burger Monday share an evening of genre-bending rock at Le Mondo. Asheville’s Okapi brings avant-folk and bluegrass shaped by upright bass, harmonium, cello, and voice, while Kansas City’s Nature Boys deliver hard-driving rock. Velvet Zombie is billed as “thick furry crying styles,” and Burger Monday as the cool-rock sister project of Gay Baseball.
Okapi is an Asheville duo consisting of Scott Mitchell Gorski on upright bass, harmonium, and vocals and Lindsey Paige Miller on cello. Their intricate, candid songs draw on contrasting musical backgrounds and explore rawness, honesty, personal growth, empowerment, and the absurdity of modern life.
Nature Boys formed in Kansas City in September 2009. Guitarist and vocalist Danny Fischer, bassist and vocalist Suzanne Hogan, and drummer Brad Highnam are known for slashing guitars, forceful rhythm-section work, and sweet but savage vocals. The band has toured internationally, organizing its own tours and traveling in vehicles described as less than roadworthy.
