Maryland Hall A/V Club Free Screening (November Edition)
Maryland Hall’s A/V Club brings movie lovers together for a free screening of Charles Laughton’s 1955 film *The Night of the Hunter*, followed by a lively post-film discussion. The welcoming series is designed for audiences who enjoy experiencing classic films in community and sharing their reactions afterward.
Set during the Great Depression, the thriller follows Ben Harper, who hides $10,000 in stolen money inside his daughter Pearl’s favorite doll before he is captured and sentenced to death. In prison, Harper’s cellmate is Harry Powell, a self-proclaimed preacher who is actually a con artist and murderer targeting wealthy widows. After Harper’s execution, Powell marries Harper’s widow, Willa, hoping to discover where the money is hidden. As Powell terrorizes the family, Harper’s children, John and Pearl, must protect their secret and evade his increasingly threatening schemes.
