Shared Offerings
Shared Offerings is a solo exhibition by Ali Saunders, Baltimore Clayworks’ 2024–27 Long-Term Resident Artist. The exhibition explores parallels between relationships among objects and people through ceramic works arranged in pairs, sets, and groupings. These arrangements suggest familial connections and invite viewers to notice links between objects. Patterns on the vessels reflect exchanges between mothers and children, while images serve as containers for emotion, conversation, and legacy.
Saunders creates functional pottery that combines pattern and color with a strong emphasis on surface design. Her work is influenced by growth, abundance in nature, and the legacy of female makers in her family. She is interested in making objects that are satisfying both in use and when displayed, with surfaces intended to reveal something of her own perspective while offering users comfort and solace.
