Featuring: Crack the Sky, Carey Ziegler

Crack the Sky performs a progressive-rock show at Rams Head On Stage, presented by 97Underground.com Radio. The band is known for combining power-pop melodies, hard-rock guitar, unconventional lyrics, and intricate progressive arrangements. Their music draws on influences ranging from the Beatles, Yes, King Crimson, and Genesis to James Brown.

Formed in Weirton, West Virginia, in the early 1970s, Crack the Sky broke through with its 1975 debut album, which Rolling Stone named the debut album of the year. The band’s first three albums reached the Billboard 200, and its touring history includes performances with Frank Zappa, ELO, Rush, Kansas, and Supertramp. The group continues to write, record, and perform, bringing an energetic and highly precise live show to the stage.

Carey Ziegler has returned to Crack the Sky as the band’s bass player. The group is associated with the songwriting of John Palumbo and the guitar work of Rick Witkowski and Bobby Hird. Recent musical directions include the 2019 album *Living in Reverse* and the 2023 release *From The Wood*, which explores mostly acoustic Americana instrumentation. That album includes a quieter, semi-acoustic reworking of “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
