Subodhana Wijeyeratne with Karina A. Vado: Triangulum
Subodhana Wijeyeratne visits Bird in Hand to discuss *Triangulum: An Epic of the Nine Worlds of Surya*, his science-fiction novel about three young humans navigating a far-future galaxy on the brink of war. Wijeyeratne, who has also written an academic history of Japan’s space program, will be joined by Karina A. Vado for a conversation about the book and its ideas. The novel has been described by *Publishers Weekly* as an elegant, richly layered space opera.
Wijeyeratne is a speculative-fiction writer and historian whose work examines empire, memory, technology, and the futures societies create from their histories. His other books include *The Slixes*, *Tales from the Stone Lotus*, and *The Islands and the Stars: A History of Japan’s Space Programs*. His fiction has appeared in numerous publications, and his stories have received finalist and award recognition.
Vado is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine, Science, and the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University. Her scholarship connects Latin/x American studies, science and technology studies, and science-fiction studies, with particular attention to race, genetics, identity, bioethics, and the social implications of scientific ideas. She teaches courses involving science fiction, Afrofuturism, Latinxfuturisms, literature and science, feminist science and technology studies, and Latin/x American literary and cultural studies.
