Maryland Hall Monthly Book Club (October Edition)

The Maryland Hall Monthly Book Club’s October meeting focuses on Janice Hallett’s mystery novel *The Appeal*. Hosted by author Kate Myers, the book club brings readers together each month for a new selection and thoughtful conversation in a welcoming community setting. Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month.

*The Appeal* follows the Fairway Players, a local theater group whose rehearsals are disrupted when the director Martin Hayward and his wife Helen learn that their young granddaughter has a rare form of cancer. As the cast rallies to raise money for an expensive experimental treatment, doubts emerge about the treatment and the motives of those involved. Tensions build through the company and the surrounding community until a dead body is discovered after a disastrous dress rehearsal. Two young lawyers later examine emails, messages, and letters in preparation for the trial, searching for clues that may reveal a killer who has been hiding in plain sight.
